So, I am finally back and this will be my first post back after my family issue thingy. Sorry everyone – I just have been so crazy busy and tied up with things that posting was sort of out of the question.
I thought I would make my first post on something one of my readers have asked me. How do you change a diaper in an airplane and contain the smell?
Wearing a diaper and changing a diaper in an airplane is handled I would say in the same manner you would any tight space or close-quartered area. If you wet your diaper on an airplane and it isn’t at risk of leaking then see if you are able to wait until the plane lands – it would just be easier in general to change your diaper in an airport bathroom for obvious reasons. If you are on a long flight though and have no choice and need to change your wet diaper then just take a diaper out of where ever you have it stored – don’t look suspicious though – just act like it is not a big deal. Especially on a plane you don’t want to be pulling anything out of a bag and look suspicious if you catch my drift. So, some tips for changing your diaper in an airplane bathroom would be to bring a pull-up to last you the rest of the way if you think it will be able to hold. A pull-up is a lot easier to put on then a diaper is and less time consuming. But, if all you have is diapers then just put the diaper on while sitting down if there is a space in that particular airplane bathroom…it is way easier than trying to stand up and changing. But, if you have to change your diaper standing up just use the wall to brace yourself against to provide some leverage so you don’t go swaying everywhere.
When it comes to messy and poopy diapers – I would suggest some pre-planning for this, which is what I have always done. If you are a person that does poop their diapers then changing in an airplane will prove extremely difficult. I would HIGHLY suggest first putting a lot of powder inside your diaper before you get on the plane and make sure the diaper is tight around the edges so the smell has less space to come out. Then, make sure to put on a good pair of plastic pants or even two of them which will immensely help contain the smell and keep it inside your pants. Also, wear a good perfume/cologne which will help mask anything that does get out. This is what I have always done and never run into many issues. If you absolutely have to change a poopy diaper in an airplane bathroom then make sure you brought your own baby wipes and a lot of them. Brace your legs against the sides of the bathroom walls so that you are stabilized and can reach the areas you need to wipe in order to clean your bottom. Then, as usual brace yourself against a wall to secure a diaper on. I would also highly suggest wearing a premium diaper along the lines of a Bambino Diaper…that sort of premium. It will allow more wettings and provides more of a cushion and barrier between your bottom and the outside which also helps to contain the smell.
Some of these are obvious tips but some aren’t, so hopefully these tips help you next time you decide to wear a diaper on an airplane and need to change. If you have any other tips please do share them as I am just basing this off my personal experiences and what I have done..
Thanks so much for the post, I am often on 10-12 hour flights, and i’m a very heavy wetter and have had leaks around the 5th hour mark with Abena X-plus (sitting down); sometimes I do mess myself, and usually I would just sit in it until I got off the plane with my fellow passengers asking their neighbors why their area of the plane had become particularly odorous.
Welcome back^^. Hope everythings all right
Good text 🙂
Thank you for the nice post – good advice on an important issue.
One thing though – in my experience pull-ups are a nightmare to put on compared to all-in-ones, particularly in confined spaces like many public bathrooms in general and airplane bathrooms in particular.
Why? It may be because I am male and do not wear skirts, but in order to put on a pull-up, I more or less have to undress to put it on (trousers/jeans off, shoes off and any additional underwear off), while a regular all-in-one diaper with tapes can be put on with the jeans/trousers pulled down to the thighs/calves.
It is easy to take pull-ups off since we can just rip them apart, but putting on a fresh one is a very different matter.
However, I can certainly see that it is easier when wearing a skirt, so I guess this is an advantage for girls/women (and the occasional man wearing a skirt or kilt).
All the best,
adrian, what happened to kay? i was just reading old posts and saw her. thanks, would like to hear from her!
Hey I was wondering, would it be okay if your wearing a coat and there’s a big enough pocket to store a diaper in to leave one in there and use it if necessary? Or would there be the possibility of having it taken or something?
I’m going to be taking a 6 hour flight from west coast to east coast soon… I hope I dont poop my diaper while on the flight. I will definatley wear a bambino. It’ll be kidna funny cuz my person sitting next to me will hav eto go at least 1 time if not 2 times to the bathroom and I’ll be sitting there the whole time. Theyll either think I have a bladder of steal, or am in a diaper.
If i did poop, i would sit in it not even try changing cuz eww, i’d wind up getting it on my hand or something. IF the person next to me or around me had a problem i’d be like “look, unless you want to change me, leave me alone its to difficult to change int hose small places.” And besides I have a disability not related to diapers, but still, hopefully people would just be cool about it. I also worry now days about going through check points wearing a diaper cuz of the latest stupidity of the so called “underwear bomber”
Oh well. *sighs*
you could instead of using pullups use the tena flex ultra’s they have almost the same capacity as a normal brief but are easy to put on while standing, thats just my two cents thrown in.
what i usually do with this kind of situation is wear two pull-ups at a time, one over the other. that way, when you have to change, you can just pull down the outside one, rip the inside one off, clean yourself off, and then pull the 2nd one back up. its really a lot simpler than it sounds. hope this helps 🙂
