Vacation is something so many people look forward to for the few times a year that you are actually able to take a vacation.  I just got back from vacation a couple weeks ago.  I went to Virginia Beach and I was thinking about my ritual of packing and making sure I have everything I need when vacationing and having to wear diapers as well.

I am one of those obsessive people that have to make sure they have more than enough things (i.e. clothes, toiletries, diapers, wipes, etc) just in case.  I am a worry wort.  Yep, I am the person with like 4 bags for a 3 day trip.  That is me!  Make fun of me all you want to but I am always prepared 🙂 Anyways, I am going to address packing and then dealing with wearing adult diapers when you are at the beach on vacation.

Packing: I highly suggest getting a roll away luggage bag instead of just a regular bag because these are able to fit your clothes and adult diapers and supplies a lot better AND neater!  I am a neat freak so I like my packing organized!  What I do is always bring the most absorbent adult diapers I have on vacation (typically Bambino, Secure, and if I have Abena then I will bring them) in order to minimize bringing tons and tons of diapers which takes up even more room.  The more absorbent adult diapers allow for longer lengths between changing which obviously reduces the amount of diapers you need to carry.  I usually pack my diapers in a whole separate luggage bag (that is just me though).  I will usually bring 2-3 thinner diapers which usually are Attends or Tranquility which I will wear on the beach.  Thinner diapers are a must on the beach because it is usually hot and I don’t want a huge bulky diaper on when I am on the beach.  So, you can go with Attends, Tranquility, or Secure Plus or Secure Premium adult diapers for the thinner ones…or Depends but I hate Depends lol.  Make sure you remember to pack lots of powder (helps to keep cool) and loose fitting clothing because when you are the beach you don’t want to feel so constricted when wearing diapers at a hot beach (at least I don’t).  Something about the beach instills a sense of “freedom” in me and I like to bring loose fitting shorts, wraps, etc that are just more “flowy” and “liberal”.  No tight jeans or pants for me usually unless we go to a nice restaurant.

Dealing With Adult Diapers at Beach: People ask me all the time how do I go about wearing diapers when I am at a beach.  Well, most times its on a “how I feel” basis.  If there are tons and tons of people around then I try to be a little bit mindful of people’s feelings and I will not just wear a diaper and top…I will usually put my bathing suit bottom over the top of the diaper just so it covers it up some.  For guys, its probably easier to cover it up all the way since they wear board shorts or something like that.  If there are not too many people or I am just in one of those I don’t care moods then I will just wear the diaper and my bathing suit top (sometimes I have a t-shirt on over my top).  I mean, that is how I handle it because its not a big thing to me anymore.  It is all about confidence and respect.  If you act like it is no big deal and you aren’t acting like some sort of crazy fool on the beach wearing a diaper then most people will not care and assume its for a disability.  But, if you are acting super babyish or being stupid then most likely people are going to give you strange looks a lot more often and criticize you – which is rightfully so!  So, it is all about being confident and not letting a few looks destroy your feelings BUT at the same time being respectful as well.  I am a very very accepting person and if I saw somebody doing something completely out of the ordinary I probably would not care (yeh I may look but not really care) BUT, if they are being stupid, disrespectful, completely inappropriate, hurting someone, etc. then of course I am going to give them strange looks.  So, the best advice I can give you with wearing diapers at the beach is to just be confident but also mindful if there are tons of people around.

Let me leave you with a rough statistic before I finish up this post…I have been to the beach probably over a 150 times in my entire life from just age 10 to now (mid 20’s).  I can count on probably 1 hand the amount of times anyone has ever said anything to me about my diapers while I am at the beach.  And, NONE of them were disrespectful – they were just curious.  Of course, I have had some strange looks but by no means is it the majority – and most people don’t notice unless you are all over the place.  So out of the thousands of hours I have been at the beach – MAYBE, an hour of those thousand hours was I ever interrupted about my diapers.  Hopefully, this helped some of you all gain a little more confidence in wearing your diapers and not letting it ruin a vacation or cause stress BUT also learn to show a little respect as well for others..
